Hot Chip

Hot Chip has been a musical fave of mine for quite a few years. Now that I have seen them live, I love them even more. I can not help but to be amazed by their talent. On stage is a formed half circle of 5 guys and electronic equipment. Oh and a guitar too. I got to hear most of the songs I had crossed my fingers for except for Playboy, Shining Escalade and Tchaparian. They played some tracks off their new album. Unfortunately, I do not remember the titles. I was betting that Over and Over would be an encore BUT I was wrong. The Beach Party was. They were everything I had hoped for. Tussle opened up for Hot Chip. All instrumental stuff. I would describe it as progressive dance music only by a live band. I had never been to The Orange Peel before. It was quite lovely inside. Nice and roomy, not overcrowded. I had no problem seeing the guys at all. The downside only beer and wine, no liquor. Another negative, there was a few people that had some major body odor. eeep..SHOOO! All in all .... a fantastic evening. My sister was there in addition some of my best friends. One of those nights that will replay in my mind for some time to come.

Fuzzy yet warm memories....

Visit Asheville.
Despite the panhandlers, it actually is a nifty little town tucked away in the mountains.

Metric

A band that makes it happy.
Emily Haines voice is incredibly sexy and soothing.

Originally formed in 1998 in New York City, Metric is currently based in Toronto, Ontario. The band consists of vocalist and keyboardist Emily Haines, guitarist James Shaw, bassist Josh Winstead and drummer Joules Scott-Key. Their full-length second album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, was released in 2003. Their newest album, Live It Out, was originally released on 04/10/05, but followed by a UK release on 09/07/06. Haines and Shaw also perform with Broken Social Scene, and Haines has been a guest on albums by Stars, K.C. Accidental, and Delerium.

I especially love this quote from Emily:

"I get freaked out by numbers, and the idea that if your audience grows, suddenly it's going to be a bunch of frat boys," Emily admits."But more and more I just feel like those judgments about types of people and their musical tastes are ringing untrue to me. There are lot of people who would love to listen to Feist in the morning and Death from Above on a Friday night. People don't like music according to a type."

The need to get down here from Canada so I can see them live.

Peter, Bjorn and John

Off the beaten path of my normal listenings, I am enjoying these three guys right now. Peter Morén on vocals, guitar, and harmonica; Björn Yttling on vocals, bass, and keyboards; and John Eriksson on drums, percussion, and vocals. The band was formed in 1999 in Stockholm, Sweden. However, I just recently stumbled upon them. They have a 60's indie pop thing going on. The song that I am loving right now, Young Folks, featuring Victoria Bergsman.

I do not know much about Victoria Bergsman, except she used to be the lead singer in a band named The Concretes.

Peter, Bjorn and John have a fairly new album out called "Writer's Block".

The Black Donnellys // Lazaro Casanova

The Black Donnellys is my new favorite show. It is like The Sopranos but with the Irish instead of the Italians. You can catch the first episode for free on itunes. The next two are also on there for purchase.

I finally saw Lazaro Casanova this past Saturday in Charlotte and he was totally awesome. The whole night was fabulous with all my favorite talent and friends there. I will post some pics once I can get my hands on them.

Gym Class Heroes

A fave at the moment. I guess it doesn't help that I think Travis, the lead singer, is super fabulous to look at. I don't believe I have ever seen a guy with a Monroe. A friend of mine were contemplating yesterday evening as to whether these guys are corny or clever. I decided they are cleverly corny. If classification of genre had to be made, it would be Indie / Hip-Hop fusion. A quartet of musical uniqueness.

All Grown Up

Here it is, my new blog. I took on the notion from my best DC friend, D_vid. Some of my friends do not have Myspace or Livejournal. Entries will be cross posted, I'm sure.
Here's to a fresh new start and such.
