Sunday Funday

It was nice to get away last Sunday. Even if it was just for a day. We went to the drag way in Commerce first. What an experience. I have never been the racing type. But this is so much different that cars going around in circles 500 times. The feeling that you get when those drag cars go by is simply indescribable. The loudness, the vibration, the smell, the heat - it is all so intense. It's almost just like the rush you get when you are on a roller coaster without the tummy thing. It started raining so the racing stopped. We were going to go to the outlets but decided on Ikea instead! We finally have our living room almost furnished. Now I just need some art for the walls, matching footstools for our chairs, barstools, a case to put my Dunnys in and figure out how to get the couch I want. Here is what we purchased on Sunday...

We also got glasses, silverware, a hammock, and dining room light amongst other small things. I think this was the most money we ever spent there. It was about time though. I saw Muslim women shopping there draped head to toe so you could only see their mysterious eyes. I had never been that close to a Muslim woman fully clothed like that before. My best friend in elementary school was Muslim and from Saudi Arabia and her family never dressed that way. It was just so different.

Dreamz..

I rarely have dreams about doing drugs. Last night was the first in years. Phi and I were with some friends gallivanting around town when we ran into someone that had pills. I took 2. Immediately, I started regretting it. "Oh no I should have only took one!". I was so messed up. So we were standing outside this club where there was awesome music playing inside. I kept asking if we were going in to dance and before I knew it we had been standing outside for hours doing nothing but talking. We went back to Phi's and decided since I needed a place to live that I should move in with him. After moving in, I went to take a shower. During the middle the water cut off. I yelled "what is going on?". Eric came in and said Phi keeps tabs on water usage and my time was up. I also remember feeling very 'cracked out' the following day.
Woah.

Scoot This...

I am not a scooter type of girl but if I lived closer towards the heart of the city, downtown for instance, I would rock the streets with this scooterific motorized vehicle. I would train my dog to ride in the cargo area (with nets of course).

Polaroid

When I first heard of Polaroid not offering the instant film anymore I was super sad and immediately tried to get film off ebay for both cameras I have. Unfortunately, I was not willing to spend the kind of money they were asking for. I was going to cut my losses and retire my Polaroid cameras forever. The Impossible Project has come along and purchased all of Polaroid's equipment in hopes of creating something new! I can't wait to see what they bring to the table. I have looked into purchasing a Fujifim Instax Mini 7 in the mean time. I still have not decided at this point.

Plastic Bag Ban

At the beginning of this year, plastic shopping bags were banned in South Australia. If a store is caught supplying these bags they could face a fine up to $3594 (approx). I am truly amazed that someone is finally taken initiative on this matter. The US definitely needs to follow this idea whole heartedly.

The more you know:

Plastic bags cause global warming and pollution from beaing produced.
Stores give away bags for free but in return offset costs by raising product prices.
Animals lives are endangered from discarded bags.

So... purchase a bag from your local market or buy one online...

Flight of the Conchords

The second season of Flight of the Conchords has been highly anticipated by all. Their first season was in 2007 and at one point there were rumors of not even beginning a second season. Thankfully Bret, Jemaine, and HBO came to their senses and have decided to move forward with what has to be one of my favorite TV shows of all time. The new season begins this Sunday, January 18th, at 10 PM on HBO.

Hot Chip

Hot Chip has been a musical fave of mine for quite a few years. Now that I have seen them live, I love them even more. I can not help but to be amazed by their talent. On stage is a formed half circle of 5 guys and electronic equipment. Oh and a guitar too. I got to hear most of the songs I had crossed my fingers for except for Playboy, Shining Escalade and Tchaparian. They played some tracks off their new album. Unfortunately, I do not remember the titles. I was betting that Over and Over would be an encore BUT I was wrong. The Beach Party was. They were everything I had hoped for. Tussle opened up for Hot Chip. All instrumental stuff. I would describe it as progressive dance music only by a live band. I had never been to The Orange Peel before. It was quite lovely inside. Nice and roomy, not overcrowded. I had no problem seeing the guys at all. The downside only beer and wine, no liquor. Another negative, there was a few people that had some major body odor. eeep..SHOOO! All in all .... a fantastic evening. My sister was there in addition some of my best friends. One of those nights that will replay in my mind for some time to come.

A band that makes it happy.
Emily Haines voice is incredibly sexy and soothing.


Originally formed in 1998 in New York City, Metric is currently based in Toronto, Ontario. The band consists of vocalist and keyboardist Emily Haines, guitarist James Shaw, bassist Josh Winstead and drummer Joules Scott-Key. Their full-length second album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, was released in 2003. Their newest album, Live It Out, was originally released on 04/10/05, but followed by a drownedinsound UK release on 09/07/06. Haines and Shaw also perform with Broken Social Scene, and Haines has been a guest on albums by Stars, K.C. Accidental, and Delerium.


I especially love this quote from Emily:

"I get freaked out by numbers, and the idea that if your audience grows, suddenly it's going to be a bunch of frat boys," Emily admits."But more and more I just feel like those judgments about types of people and their musical tastes are ringing untrue to me. There are lot of people who would love to listen to Feist in the morning and Death from Above on a Friday night. People don't like music according to a type."

The need to get down here from Canada so I can see them live.
